-the Logan Community Recreation Center (195 S 100 West) has changed it’s hours to accommodate the beginning of the school year for Logan High School. Public hours are as follows: Mon – Fri 530a.m. to 230p.m. and 530p.m. to 930p.m. and Saturday from 7a.m. to 5p.m. For more information: (716-9250)
-Sweet Corn for sale in Deweyville, just across the mountain from Logan. The sign says “You Pick and Pay What You Want”. They have plenty, several acres and do not want it to go to waste. Go south past the Deweyville church, right along the main road before Honeyville, you will see a yellow sign. For some larger orders, the owner has a couple of grandsons that could pick up and deliver to Logan. For that or more information: (435-230-1170 or 230-1174).
-it’s back-to-school time and the Logan Aquatic Center (451 S 500 West) will be adjusting their open swim hours. TODAY (Friday) from 3p.m. to 7p.m., Saturday from 12 noon to 7p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 6p.m. Labor Day Holiday 12 noon to 7p.m. The Logan Aquatic Center will be CLOSED for the 2010 season beginning Tuesday, Sept 7th. TODAY(Friday) – it’s “Blood Battle” from 10a.m. to 3p.m. in the TSC Lounges/ 80’s Dance featuring DJ Marcus Wing from 9p.m. to 12 midnight on the Quad/ Saturday- watch the USU Football game @ Oklahoma broadcast live from 5p.m. to 8p.m. in the Nelson Field-house/ Red Suit Apparatus-live in concert (with special guest Shut Up and Deal) from 8p.m. to 1030p.m. on 700 North (traffic will be shut down)
-Wellsville Founder’s Day 2010 is being held thru Labor Day Monday. Friday & Saturday – it’s the Wellsville Stampede @ 7p.m. (come be a part of the 2nd annual semi-pro rodeo to be held at the Wellsville Arena)/Saturday- Golf Tournament at Logan River (18-hole begins at 8a.m. mixed doubles and family or competitive)/ Dance – from 830 to 1130p.m. at Wellsville Elementary (ages 14 and up/ live music and refreshments)/ Sunday – Patriotic Program at 730p.m. at the LDS Stake Center (corner of Center & Main). -Stokes Nature Center invites curious toddlers, ages 2 – 3, to join them for ‘Parent-Tot’ – Friday from 10a.m. to 11a.m. Explore animals, plants and nature through music, crafts and games. This program is parent-interactive and all toddlers must have a parent present to participate and explore along with their child. Program fee is $3 ($2.50 for SNC members). -Cache Valley Gardeners' Market is an open-air market held every Saturday (into October) from 9a.m. to 1p.m. The market is not only the best place in town to find fresh, locally grown produce, but our customers can also browse fine arts and crafts. -listen up: All high-school aged kids from Mountain Crest, Skyview and Logan are invited to come serve and meet new friends from across the valley at the Cache Valley Kids-Helping-Kids Benefit Carwash and Service Event – Monday from 1p.m. to 5p.m. in the Larson Retail Center parking lot just north of the old Walmart. Give just one-hour of your time and you’ll get a wristband for a Pool Party that night at the Logan Aquatic Center. Free pizza from Smokey Joe’s, a Raffle with prizes ranging from Cold Stone Ice Cream to hotel night-stays and Spa Treatments from Planet Beach. All proceeds go to the Child and Family Support Center.
-the Logan City Environmental Department offices and the Landfill will be CLOSED on Monday (Labor Day). There will be NO residential garbage, recycling or green waste collection on that day. Monday’s residential routes will be collected on Tuesday. Commercial routes will not be affected by the holiday. -another Gardening Class will be held by USU Extension in Box Elder County on Tuesday at the Box Elder County Extension office (195 W 1100 South) in Brigham City. The class is entitled “Preserving the Harvest” with quick and easy ways to freeze fruit and veggies (from 6p.m. to 8p.m.). The final class will be Sept 21st from 6p.m. to 8p.m. with the theme “Tomato Taste Testing”- take the chance to choose your favorite from a plethora of tomato varieties – along with salsa from the August preservation class. -the Cache Valley Historical Society meeting for September will feature Stan Allen who will discuss and show pictures of historical monuments, markers and landmarks in Cache Valley. The meeting is Wed night at 7p.m. in the northeast corner of the Logan Library building. Stan attended school at USU and completed a PhD at Iowa State. He taught Veterinary Science at USU from 1996 until his retirement in 2007. The lecture is free and the public is invited to attend.
-the Child and Family Support Center is offering several classes: “Why Try” for youth ages 13 – 15 (an accredited program that helps youth overcome life’s daily pressures and challenges)/ a Parenting Class (beginning Sept 8th) and Children’s classes (Second Step) for different age groups. Your child will learn empathy skills, problem-solving skills and anger management. Classes held at the Child & Family Support Center (380 W 1400 North) in Logan. -A “Back to School Carnival” will be held Wed. from 5p.m. to 730p.m. at the Millville School Playground (67 S Main ,Millville). With pizza, games, drinks, concessions, climbing wall, obstacle course, silent auction, Giant Slides, Dunk Tank, Trading Post, Train Rides, Pony Rides and Live Bands. Friday it’s Exhibits from 2p.m. to 7p.m. with a Gun Show, Big Game Trophy Room, Stone Carving exhibit, Face Painting, Trader’s Row, Candy Cannon (throughout the day), Saddles & Leather, FOOD and more….like a Concealed Firearms Permit Class (sign-up required) – cost is $60 per person.
